Posted on October 22nd 201829 Year 9 Production Arts students experienced life backstage at The Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury. They had a private tour of the backstage areas including the lighting boxes, the studio, dressing rooms and even the lighting gantry at the very top of the theatre!
Students discovered how the theatre was designed and built in 2011, replacing the older theatre. Each seat has been designed to enhance the sound quality and the view. The Jersey Boys was playing this week so we had a close-up look at all their props, costumes and sets, learning how the set pieces are "flown" up and down the stage as well as the quick-change areas backstage that are really cramped! Students made the most of seeing how a professional theatre operates and we were given a 90 minutes talk/demonstration form the theatre staff.
Now, it is over to Year 9 students to run all of our productions professionally!
