School update on precautions for Covid-19Posted on March 12th 2020
Further to government instructions the school closed for the majority of students today. From next week we operate a skeleton staff for those children of key workers who have childcare difficulties. Please note we only have provision for students that attend The Abbey School. The government advice is that students should remain at home wherever possible as it is important for all of us to maintain a high level of social isolation in order to curb the spread of the virus and lessen its impact amongst our community.
Free School Meals
The government have issued instructions on providing vouchers for families with children entitled to free school meals. It is our intention initially to send out vouchers to eligible parents by post. We are expecting further advice from the government on a more central way of issuing these. We are currently experiencing difficulty obtaining the vouchers from the supermarkets as, like everything else, they have sold out. We understand this may create additional pressure for some families but we aim to get vouchers out to you as soon as possible.
Parent Portal and website
The school is upgrading its broadband service on Friday 27th March so you may experience some issues with logging in to the VLE during the day. If all goes successfully, the service should be up and running by the weekend.
