The Leadership Team have consulted Mr Clarke and Mrs Woodend and the dress code for the school Sixth Form is based on a ‘smart casual’ policy. This includes:

  • Polo shirt/shirt/blouse for everyone; these can be long or short sleeved – these should be modest. Please see below for tops that students cannot wear. If in doubt check the day before if you are unsure.

  • Jumper or cardigan can be worn

  • Trousers (can include smart jeans - no rips), ¾ length trousers, skirts or dresses. Smart chino shorts in the appropriate weather

  • T-shirts can be worn with no inappropriate slogans (check the day before if you’re not sure!)

  • Smart flat shoes or ankle boots – black or brown. Clean trainers are acceptable

  • Leggings may be worn in place of tights (e.g. with a dress or long tunic top), but must not be worn in place of trousers (e.g. with a short top that does not cover to above the knee)

  • When taking part in school public events (Open Evenings & Mornings, Parents evenings, press opportunities etc) students are to wear business dress; jeans are not permitted.

  • ID cards should be worn and clearly visible.

It has been agreed that the following do not represent The Abbey School Sixth Form and are not allowed:

  • Caps – other headgear can be worn to the school, but not inside

  • Tracksuits

  • Crop tops, vest tops, low cut tops

  • Jeans with rips or tears in

  • Football tops.

  • Hair must be a natural colour.

  • Those students who take Performing Arts must wear the appropriate items as outlined by the Performing Arts department.

  • Football Academy students are expected to dress as above except for match days when part of the playing squads on the day.

Students will be asked to remove any items which are not deemed acceptable dress; where this is not possible students will be sent to the Deputy Head of Sixth Form/Assistant Head for KS5 who will send them home to change. If plausible, they will then be expected to return to the school for the remainder of the school day.
