Posted on July 2nd 2019On Friday 29th June, The Abbey School held its annual Sports Day for Years 7, 8 and 9. Once again, students were competing for their house and against their personal bests in a number of athletic events, some aiming for school records, some just enjoying taking part.
The temperature was perfect, but unfortunately, a stiff headwind meant that few records fell this year. However, we did see a number of excellent performances from our students both on the track and in the field. The support from the students and staff was amazing all afternoon. The students loved having their faces painted in the colours of their houses and waving banners and flags (made in their art lessons) as the competitors raced by.
It was brilliant to see the joy on the students’ faces as they stood on the podium to receive their medals and the numerous displays of sportsmanship, teamwork, and encouragement were fantastic and a real credit to the school.
The teachers also played their part as the whole school cheered on the staff relay at the end of the day. Overall, Discovery ran out clear winners with 756 points.
The following students all broke school records:
- Izzy N – Year 7 Girls – 1500m – 6:14.18
- Ronny S – Year 8 Boys – Javelin – 28.81m
- Endeavour – Year 9 Girls – Relay – 58.76s
