We strive to make sure that your child's transition from Year 6 and into Year 7 is as smooth as possible. We recognise that this is a daunting time for childrem, and aim to make them feel welcomed into the school community even before they start their learning in September. Summer School 2023
I thought this Summer School was very well planned and extremely organised. It definitely helped my son to feel more at ease with the transition to secondary. I think that the undivided attention these children received was fab as the week was all about them!
The Abbey School is delighted to be able to offer a Summer School to every student in Year 6 who has secured a place at our school as a Year 7.
During the week, we offer a full range of fantastic enrichment for our students to get totally immersed in. Here are some examples of what has been offered in the past: a trip to Howletts Zoo, a dance workshop delivered by the Jasmin Vardimon dance company, a tour of Brogdale Farm and lots of sport (including a huge football tournament!).
We also provide an academic offer to support and catch up on missed learning. This included: Mathematics, English, Science and Business Studies. All of these sessions are planned and delivered by our own qualified teachers.
Finally, every student is given a clear introduction to our core principles and values here at The Abbey School, delivered alongside a supportive Wellbeing Journal and some exceptional Speech and Language sessions.
97% of children felt “excited” to join the school after attending Summer School. We believe it is a really valuable induction into life here at The Abbey School, and sets our next cohort up for success from the very beginning.
My son is feeling so much more relaxed and happy about starting in September, he speaks only positive things about the week and the terrified boy from the first day is a distant memory!
